Research Question

Raja interned with Turkish Petroleum in the summer, with Turkey being a vital transportation center for oil that eventually reaches European and American markets.

Significance

Large amount of Middle East, Russian and Caspian oil is transported through Turkey to reach European and American markets. Working for such an internationally recognized company will provide very practical experience and necessary insight into the current and future conditions of the oil industry as well as develop connections and networking within the industry.

Methods Used

Drilling, production and completion disciplines of petroleum engineering procedures and design were used during the internship. Engineers plan and carry out a drilling design of an exploration well using cutting edge directional drilling, while also designing oil flow of the individual wells into a network of fields and into the main production facility.

Conclusions/Outcomes

The reservoir of southern Anatolia has a huge amount of water production, close to 90% of all fluid produced from the reservoir is water, which is then used as a geothermal source of heat. Several greenhouses are operated using geothermal energy from the water produced from the oil wells. The water is usually pumped back into the reservoir as water to flush the remaining oil into a production well.
