Spring 2017 internship - U.S consulate/office in Singapore or Taiwan

Award

CGS Senator Malcolm Wallop ‘Conversations on Democracy’ Award

Significance

I am a senior student in international studies with a focus on Asia and the Pacific Rim. My interest in this field started after I moved to the United States from China and joined in the U.S military. Being away from Asia has made me more appreciative of Asian culture. Additionally, living in the U.S and serving in the military has made me more interested in the U.S foreign policy towards Asia. Furthermore, my eventual career goal is to work at an U.S embassy as a Foreign Service Officer, and therefore, I believe this internship will provide me a great opportunity to learn about the Foreign Service Officers’ different missions and duties.

Conclusions/Outcomes

I am expecting to gain insight into U.S foreign policy and diplomacy, as well as putting knowledge I have acquired from school into practice.
