Description

This interactive panel paper session will describe an ongoing research project that investigates the use of the Photo-voice method as a form of community engagement and empowerment with immigrant students and their families. Current research participants from the Poudre School District will talk about their experience with the project and what they have learned from the project. Photo-voice posters created by students, parents, cultural mediators, and family liaisons, photos from a culminating art exhibition of all of the projects, and video footage of workshops and student-led public presentations will also be presented and discussed as part of this paper presentation. Participants attending the presentation will be actively engaged in the discussion of the overall projects, its methods, and the implications of the work of the project in their own work as educational professionals.
