This file includes two documents pertaining to the AMK Ranch in Grand Teton National Park. The primary document is the property’s updated National Register of Historic Places nomination form (2005). The second document, a cover letter from research scientist Mary Humstone, clarifies the 1990 registration of some of the site’s buildings and the more recent decision to assess the importance of surrounding landscape features and to nominate the site as a whole for its cultural significance.
Recognizing the importance of landscape features as well as the buildings, the Grand Teton National Park cultural resources manager sought to document these features and evaluate their contributions to the significance of the property. The University of Wyoming American Studies Program, funded by a UW/NPS Research Center grant and under the supervision of Mary Humstone, further surveyed the site for this purpose. Detailed building and landscape descriptions and historical research were compiled for an updated National Register nomination. The nomination was reviewed by NPS staff at Grand Teton but has yet to be submitted to the Wyoming State Historic Preservation Office. It is therefore recommended that this nomination be viewed as a draft document.
